We created a Professional Development opportunity for our faculty and staff in the form of a technology showcase (“Tech Crawl”), in which we invited teachers from all divisions to share technology-infused projects that they used in their classes.
Our goals were to increase project-based learning; infuse more projects with technology; support teachers who are technophobes; encourage teachers teaching teachers; and maximize faculty buy-in of all the above.
Teachers provided a sample project and a handout explaining pros and cons of the technology they used.
Participants took a web-based survey at the conclusion of their Tech Crawl experience. At the start of the 2011-2012 school year, attendees will be sent another survey, listing the projects that they saw, and asking if they plan to use any of those projects. If they do, a member of the Tech Crawl team will mentor them through the process.
If called upon, these teachers will mentor another generation of teachers interested in creating technology-infused project-based learning for their classes.
